Industry is the backbone of European economy, significantly contributing to economic growth, employment and innovation. In an ever more competitive global environment where emerging economies are rapidly developing, BUSINESSEUROPE has put forward a set of concrete recommendations to enhance the competitiveness of European industry. Inspite of Europe's strong industrial traditions, deindustrialisation is a fact. BUSINESSEUROPE calls for European Institutions and Member States to develop, in close cooperation with industry, the necessary framework - an Industrial Compact to reignite European industry.The BUSINESSEUROPE recommendations, developed in close cooperation with all BUSINESSEUROPE Member Federations, draw on a comprehensive report – "Industry as a growth engine in the global economy" – undertaken by IW Consult and IW Köln for BUSINESSEUROPE.
